Japanic began on New Year's Eve 1998 in Houston, Texas. Since then they've played countless shows with famous and underknown bands, toured around the United States, and released two records, all the while working on a kind of music based on rhythm and blues, fok songs, and electronics. The band has musical origins in Roxy Music, the Velvet Underground, the Modern Lovers, the Gang of Four, and Eno, and more importantly, in KISS, P-Funk, Otis Redding and Willie Nelson. Their music has been both heralded and written off at different times for being new wave, no wave, pop-punk, punk-pop, 70s, 80s, synth-pop, synth-rock, glam rock, and garage. Its not meant to be eclectic, its not meant to be easy or difficult or disposable or even for all people and for all time. Japanic's friends are numerous, their imitators like shards of glass from a broken window.
